Home theater with red walls, art deco sconces and leather recliners facing a large screen

A big TV isn’t a theater.

Sound bounces off hard walls, light washes out the picture, and the seats end up wherever the furniture fits. Most rooms are put together one piece at a time, and it shows.

Theater or media room.

Some clients want a dedicated theater: a room built only for watching, with the light and sound controlled. Others want a media room: a family room that becomes a theater when the lights go down. We design both, and we’ll help you decide which fits how you live.

What we design.

The picture. A Sony projector and a Stewart Filmscreen screen, sized for the room and the seats.

The sound. In-wall or tower speakers from McIntosh, Sonus faber and PMC, JL Audio subwoofers, and Storm Audio processing, placed for the room you have.

The movies. Kaleidescape for a library you can browse and play from the couch.

The room. We build the acoustic panels and plan the risers with your builder and architect.

The seating. We provide it, or work with your designer to choose it.

The lighting. LED tape lighting, starlight ceilings, and tunable color lighting like Ketra.

One-button control. The lights dim, the shades close and the movie starts. Crestron or Lutron ties it together.

Tuned by ear and by eye.

Donnie was an engineer and producer on Music Row in Nashville. Jaclyn’s background is photography. So every room we finish is calibrated for sound and picture before we hand it over. You hear the movie the way it was mixed and see it the way it was shot.

Best planned early. Possible anytime.

Screen size, speaker placement, risers and wiring all depend on the room’s walls and ceiling. Planned with your builder or architect before drywall, they disappear into the design. In a finished home, it’s all still possible: we visit, see what’s there, and make a plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a home theater and a media room?
A home theater is a dedicated room built only for watching, with the light and sound controlled. A media room is a shared living space with a large screen and surround sound that still works as a family room. Media Systems designs both.
Do you handle acoustics and seating?
Yes. We build the acoustic panels ourselves, plan the risers with your builder and architect, and provide the seating or choose it with your designer. Then we calibrate the sound and picture, so the room works as one system.
