Great room with motorized shades lowered across the floor to ceiling windows

Houston sun is relentless.

Walls of glass are the reason you love the house, and the reason the afternoon light fades the rug, glares on the TV and heats up the room. Opening and closing a dozen shades by hand every day isn't a plan. Neither is a drawer full of remotes.

People call them a lot of things: electric blinds, automatic blinds, smart blinds, power shades. In most luxury homes they aren't blinds at all. They're fabric shades and draperies driven by a quiet motor, raised and lowered from a keypad, a touch panel, your phone, a schedule, or a single button that sets the whole house.

What we design.

  • Lutron roller shades and draperies, wired for new construction or wire-free (battery powered) for finished homes, including the new Lutron Palladiom drapery, a motorized track styled like a traditional curtain rod.
  • Crestron roman and roller shades and drapery tracks, manual or motorized, backed by Crestron's lifetime warranty on shades.
  • Natural woven shades from Hartmann & Forbes, manual or motorized with Crestron or Lutron.
  • Shades that disappear into pockets in the ceiling when they're open, as in The West University Modern.
  • Your existing drapery, motorized so it opens and closes on its own.
  • Exterior shades and screens for patios and outdoor rooms.

One button. Lights and shades together.

Shades and lights answer to the same keypads, touch panels and scenes, so one button press can dim the lights and lower the shades together.

Some clients want their shades to rise at sunrise and lower at sunset on their own. Others only want the button on the wall, when they want it. Lutron and Crestron systems do both, and we set it up the way you live.

Best planned early. Possible anytime.

The best shade installations are decided before the walls close. We work with your builder, architect and designer to place shade pockets, power and keypads before framing, so nothing gets cut open later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are motorized shades the same as electric blinds?
Mostly, yes. People search for motorized blinds, electric blinds, automatic blinds, smart blinds or power shades, and they usually mean the same thing: window treatments raised and lowered by a quiet motor. In luxury homes they're typically fabric shades or draperies, not blinds, controlled from a keypad, a touch panel, your phone, or a schedule.
Can you add motorized shades to a home that's already built?
Yes. We can pull new wire after the fact, use battery-powered (wire-free) shades that need no new wiring, or recommend manual shades where they make more sense. In new construction or a remodel, we prefer wired shades and plan the pockets and power before the walls close. Either way, call us and we'll engineer the right design and product for the space.
